Genjutsu motion transfer: keep the moves, change who's in the video

Motion transfer is the technique behind almost every Genjutsu trend video. You give the model a source video and photos of a new subject, and it rebuilds the video with your subject doing exactly what the original performer did: same moves, same camera, same timing. Higgsfield, which created Genjutsu, describes its Motion Transfer mode as keeping "the motion, camera and timing while rebuilding the scene from your references." Genjutsu Generator runs that model as an independent browser app, with templates for the trends people are actually searching for.

The app opens soon. Join early access and we'll email you when it's ready.

How motion transfer works, in plain terms

Think of the source video as a performance and your photos as the cast. The model reads the performance (body position, gestures, camera movement, the rhythm of the clip) and then renders a new version of it with the subject from your photos. On Genjutsu Generator, the source clip's audio is kept as well, so lip-sync and music stay in time.

It's different from a face swap. A face swap pastes a face onto the original body. Motion transfer rebuilds the whole subject, body and clothes included, which is why a full-body photo matters on templates with a lot of movement.

What you need

  • A source video. Either one of our templates, or your own clip of at least 4 seconds. We use up to the first 15 seconds.
  • 1 to 8 photos of the same person or pet. Clear, well lit, face visible. For dance and sports templates, include at least one full-body photo.
  • Consent. You must own the photos or have permission from the person in them, and no one in them can be under 18.

For two-person templates like Hotel Lobby or Zombie Hug, you'll add a photo set for each person.

Step by step

  1. Pick a template or upload a clip. Every template page shows the clip length and the credit cost.
  2. Add your photos. One subject per photo set.
  3. Choose model and resolution. Light at 480p, 720p or 1080p, or HQ (full Genjutsu) at 480p or 720p.
  4. Check the cost and generate. The button will show the credits before you start. At launch, if a generation fails, the credits will come back to your balance.

What it's good at, and where it struggles

Motion transfer works best with one clearly visible performer, steady lighting and moves that aren't hidden behind objects. It's great for dances, walk-ins, reaction clips and short performances.

It's harder when hands move very fast, when two people overlap or hug, or when the performer is tiny in the frame. In those cases, better photos help most, and HQ (full Genjutsu) can give cleaner motion for about 3x the credits. See Light vs HQ for the trade-off.

What we offer at launch, and what we don't

Most templates use motion transfer: a person or pet takes the place of the one in the source clip. A few, like Flying Car, swap in an object from your photo instead, using Genjutsu's object swap mode.

Questions

What is Genjutsu motion transfer?

A mode of Higgsfield's Genjutsu model that keeps a video's motion, camera and timing and rebuilds the subject from your reference photos. Genjutsu Generator runs it as an independent app.
